Our approach is simple: have fun, stay focused and keep shooting... Learn More About Jon EvansWhen deciding on a wedding dress, most brides-to-be do not place much weight on its color. The process often times involves simply picking out a color from a palette and not taking in to consideration the overall theme and motif of their wedding.
As an example, if your wedding motif is pink, your wedding favors are the same shade of pink and your mother’s wedding attire is pink, you need to choose your dress accordingly. If you decide to add a green sash to your otherwise pristine wedding dress, you may receive a few odd looks from wedding attendees.
Regardless if you go with pink, red, fuchsia, burgundy, plum, mauve, purple, or blue, it actually doesn't matter what shade you would accentuate your wedding dresses with, as long as it's in the same color family as your chosen motif for your wedding. We suggest paging through a variety of color combinations and patterns, bridal magazines are going to be your best tool when looking for wedding dresses. They portray wedding dresses of various designs, color combinations and color patterns.
The following tips should help you in choosing the right colors to accentuate your wedding dresses:
Choose colors that complement the motif of your wedding. The closer the shade of your accents to the wedding motif, the better your dress will fit in to the overall theme.
Consider how the color that you choose will look on your wedding dresses. White may be neutral, but it doesn't mean that everything goes with it. For example, a chocolate brown sash or a dirt brown bow probably will not work well for you or your wedding dress. Instead of looking special, you may end up looking dishelveled and dowdy.
It is also important to think about how your accentuated wedding dress will look with your other wedding accessories. Will your dress make the accents stick out like a sore thumb? You may have picked out a shade that belongs to the same family as your accents, but that could backfire on you as well. The importance should be placed on your entire ensemble and how that relates to the overall theme of your wedding.
Just like life in general, it is sometimes a good thing to take risks or to be daring, however this doesn't always apply to the combinations of colors that make up your wedding dress or its patterns. Plaid, checkered or stripes will never work in a wedding. Leopard prints, zebra prints or giraffe prints will produce even worse effects.
One step you should not skip before choosing your dress is the venue that you wedding will take place at. Look at the curtains, carpet and the tablecloths and pay attention to their colors and patterns. Make sure the accents to your wedding dresses are not the same shade as them or you may receive a few smirks from your wedding crowd.
Sequins are a great addition to many wedding dresses, just make sure that you don’t overdo it. Whatever the colors of the sequins are, they should not be overbearing. Sequins are meant to accentuate your wedding dresses and should not distract people from noticing the dress itself.
